Baghaberd fortress is located not far from the town of Kapan and has been known since the 4th century. Meaning fortress Baghaberd especially increased in the 9 -11 centuries, when the warehouse for Tatev Monastery manuscripts was built. The remains of the fortress still exist.

Once it was a huge castle where there were rooms and channels in the underground labyrinth. The structure was constructed of red stones, which for its location reminiscent of coral reefs and harmoniously blend with the rocks on which the castle stood.
