Saghmosavank is surrounded by Mount Aragats, Ara mountains. Saghmosavank was once religious, scientific and cultural center of medieval Armenia.

The monastery complex consists of the Church of St. Sion and St. Virgin with the porch and library. St. Sion was built in 1215 and is the main church.
