Byurakan Astro-Physical Observatory after V. Ambartsumian is one of the leading scientific institutions of Armenian Academy of Sciences . The observatory is located in Aragatsotn region on the southern slope of Mount Aragats at an altitude of about 1500m. The complex of buildings is an architectural monument.

Byurakan Observatory was founded in 1946.

The main equipment used in research are telescopes. There are many historical monuments here. The complex of buildings of the observatory is an architectural monument of VII-X centuries.
