State Museum of History of Armenia was founded in 1921. It is part of the Museum complex on the Republic Square. The museum has collected about 400,000 exhibits.

The permanent exhibition covers the entire history of the Armenian people - from the times of the primitive society to the present day.

The museum displays artefacts found during excavations of monuments of different eras. This are primitive man tools, weapons and utensils of Urartu times and other Armenian states, sculpture, jewelry and handicraft products of various historical regions of Armenia.

The museum has a rich library, many of which are unique editions.
